You cannot leave Costa Brava without trying some of the local specialties. For our holiday in Costa Brava, we had booked an apartment in Tossa de Mar. So we had the opportunity to enjoy amazing food at different places in town during the week. Here is my guide to help you find the best food in Tossa de Mar!
Restaurante Sa Barca
For a great value for money lunch, go to Restaurante Sa Barca (€) Carrer del Mar, 2. They have a great lunch menu at €15.50. It includes a starter, a main, and a dessert or coffee with a generous glass of wine.
One of Tossa’s typical dishes is the famous Cim i Tomba (which you can see in the picture above) a fisherman’s favourite. Cim i Tomba is made from a delicious base of fresh fish to which smoked fish, potatoes, parsley, garlic, salt, tomato, saffron, olive oil, and aioli are added.
Every year in September, a gastronomic Cim i Tomba Festival takes place. During the Festival, fifteen local restaurants come up with their own recipe inspired by this maritime tradition.
La Roca & la Roca II
We had dinner at La Roca II (€) one evening and the food was so good that we decided to try La Roca (€) a couple of days later. And then we went back to La Roca II again because the experience in both places was just perfect! These restaurants are simply the best value for money places in town! Firstly, they offer massive portions and a huge menu to choose from. Secondly, daily menus are available at dinner as well and the staff is super friendly, making these two restaurants my personal favourites!
As part of their special menu, I tried the rice with lobster and it was to die for! The quality of the food was great, the fish was so fresh, and the prices were almost unbelievable! We had dinner for about €50 all three times, with wine included! I could not recommend these restaurants enough! They definitely serve the best food in Tossa de Mar!
Tip– go for dinner as both restaurants are packed at lunchtime.
Seina
We had a lovely dinner at Seina (€€) which is located in the cute centre of Tossa de Mar. The place has a lovely courtyard and really nice decor. We had some fried eggplants with goat cheese and a selection of croquettes (Iberian ham, boletus, and truffle, roast meat, spinach, and cheese) to start with. As a main, I had the grilled squid. We finished with the dessert of the day, which was a delicious cheesecake. The service was very professional and the price was fair.
Can Sophia
For a romantic dinner, head to Can Sophia (€€€) a Michelin starred restaurant which is located in the old fishermen district of Sa Roqueta, right next to the old town of Tossa de Mar.
The restaurant is part of the boutique Hotel Casa Granados. Chef Vicente Batuecas creates unique dishes using fresh and local products. The set menu for dinner costs €35 per person and includes a starter, a main, a dessert, a bottle of water, and coffee. However, wine is not included.
We went for duck steak tartar with sweet and sour onion and kumquat, and the beef jerky, arugula pesto, and rosemary oil for starters. Suckling lamb, cured cheese cream, plums, and dried apricots and the beefsteak, sweet wine reduction, and tuber Parmentier for main. And ended the amazing experience with a Choco passion (white chocolate and passion fruit) and a yogurt panna cotta with lavender touches.
Everything was delicious and splendidly presented! Definitely, an experience to have once in your lifetime!
Tip – Book in advance as the restaurant is quite small and very popular with locals and tourists.
LOOP Café
Loop Café (€) is very popular with cyclists and locals. This cute little café in the city centre serves amazing coffee and breakfast. In addition, they have a huge selection of bagels and sandwiches at a really good price!
Average Meal Price per person: € (€10 to €25) – €€ (€25 to €40) – €€€ (over €40)
